Neuron Mobility, an e-scooter and e-bike operator, that has e-scooters in Airdrie, has released some research detailing some upside the community has seen since the e-scooters hit Airdrie roads.

Some of the highlights of their research include:

  • Every rental e-scooter contributes $10,400 to the local economy each year.
  • An average of $30 per trip was spent at local businesses.
  • 70 per cent of journeys resulted in a purchase at a local business.

According to a rider survey conducted in July of this year by Neuron, 62 per cent of e-scooter trips in Airdrie result in a purchase with a local business, and 10 per cent of those trips wouldn't have happened at all if the e-scooters weren't available, meaning that local businesses would have missed out on important sales. When asked where they spent their money when using an e-scooter, 34 per cent of users said they went shopping, 24 per cent said they went to a restaurant, bar, or cafe, and 14 per cent said they went to a gym or a local event.

The majority of users in Airdrie claimed to use e-scooters for pleasure and recreation (83 per cent), although many also conducted trips with a specific goal in mind, such as travelling to work or school (31 per cent), or performing errands like shopping (27 per cent).

The report also looked at how renting e-scooters has improved city livability and attracted foreign investment. E-scooters are proving to be a crucial component of the transportation mix in Airdrie, bridging the first- and last-mile gaps in the city's extensive public transportation system. They are supporting night-shift workers and enhancing the nighttime economy by operating around the clock.
