On February 17th Airdrie Fire crews responded to a house fire in the 500 block of Tanner Drive.

Both occupants of the house, as well as a pet, had safely exited the house.

Upon arrival, fire crews responded quickly to billows of smoke coming from the attached garage at the front of the house. The fire had been located in the engine compartment of a pickup truck. The homeowner had partially extinguished the fire prior to the fire crew's arrival.

The Kings Heights fire crew quickly extinguished the fire in the garage and moved on to possible extensions of the fire onto the house itself. Using thermal imaging cameras, the crews were quick to assess any hot spots in the house. They then proceeded to evacuate the smoke and carbon monoxide which had accumulated in the home.

Damage to the house and attached garage is estimated to be $20,000 and the cause of the fire is currently undetermined.

Emergency Medical Services assessed one occupant after being evacuated.

Public Safety Message: A portable fire extinguisher can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives. If the fire does not go out after using one extinguisher, back out of the area, close the door if possible, get safely outside and call 9-1-1.
