Albertans will be getting some extra spending money on April 1, thanks to the federal government.

As of April 1, the federal Climate Action Incentive (CAI) will see a boost in the amount the rebate offers for Albertans.

People will receive varied amounts from the new Alberta program:

  • $48.25 per child under 18, up from the previous $33.75
  • $193 for an individual, up from the previous $134.75
  • $96.50 for a spouse or common-law partner, up from the previous $67.50

Other rebates for the CAI will occur in April, July, and October 2023, as well as January next year.

In accordance with the federal pollution pricing system, the federal government puts a price on pollution in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario which lack their own pricing system.

An extra 10 per cent is eligible for families in rural and small communities.
