Lack of proper heating and hot water in a Didsbury property were the reasons cited by Alberta Health Services (AHS) for shuttering the location. Tenants on the property have until May 17 to vacate the premises.

According to an April 27 report by AHS, the property, with the listed address 1206 20 Street, had no hot running water, while the heating was not working properly. The report underlined that the violations could, 'become injurious or dangerous to the public health or which might hinder in any manner the prevention or suppression of disease.'

"The primary heating system, in-floor heating, was not working. The ambient temperature in the dwelling ranged from 13.6°C to 15.2°C at the time of inspection. The heat was being supplied by space heaters as the primary source of heat."

The report added that cooking appliances and portable space heaters shall not be used as the primary source for the required heat to a habitable room

The owner must immediately restore hot running water and repair the heating system in order for the closure order to be lifted. However, until then the property with remain closed for tenant accommodation purposes.
