HBO's hit series, The Last of Us has won awards once again. This time the Alberta-filmed series snagged two awards at the 10th annual Locations Manager Guild (LMGI) Awards.
The awards ceremony was held in Hollywood, California on August 26. The Last of Us won in the Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Television Series category, and the Alberta Film Commission as well as Calgary Economic Development won in the Outstanding Film Commission category for the series.
Calgary Economic Development Vice President of Creative Industries and Film Commissioner Luke Azevedo, during the awards speech, said that the success of filming The Last of Us in Alberta was truly a provincial effort.
"...It became very clear, very quickly this wasn't going to just take a village, this was going to take every village in our province to be able to do this," he said. "We're proud of the province, we're proud of our locations professionals; in our eyes [they] are the best in the world. Thank you so much for this award and this opportunity for Alberta."
The second season of Last of Us will continue to be filmed in Canada, although British Columbia will be the pre-dominant location for the second season.
According to HBO, The season one finale of the show saw 8.2 million viewers tune in.
"The series is now averaging 30.4 million viewers across its first six episodes, with the first episode approaching 40 million viewers in the U.S. Outside of the U.S., [it is] now the most-watched show in the history of HBO Max in both Europe and Latin America."
