With Alberta having quickly become one of the premier destinations for heavy-hitting T.V. and movie productions to be filmed, it shouldn't come as a surprise that areas around Airdrie are included in highly-anticipated productions.

You might get star-struck if you're in Beiseker, as the local chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E Local 12) has confirmed that Wind River: The Next Chapter will be filmed in the town; and according to Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), filming has already begun!

The film is a sequel to the 2017 movie Wind River, a crime/drama, which starred Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Elizabeth Olsen (Doctor Stranger). This time around, Clint Eastwood's son (yes - you read that right) Scott Eastwood will be starring in the film, alongside the very talented Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty).

While the 2017 drama centred around a hunter who helped an FBI agent investigate the murder of a young woman on a Wyoming Native American reservation, the sequel follows a series of unsolved murders that will see the FBI battling to find the truth.

Castle Rock Entertainment is producing the sequel to the award-nominated original, with Emmy-nominated director, Kari Skogland heading the project.

But the suspenseful film isn't the only one being filmed in the area. Season five of Fargo was also being shot in Disdsbury, which saw the devilishly handsome Jon Hamm as part of the cast, as well as veteran actress Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Didsbury's penchant for being chosen by production companies has also spurred something more than fans cheering as they spot their hometown on-screen. Earlier this week, the Towns of Didsbury, the Town of Sundre, and Mountain View County announced the opening of Alberta's first Rural Film Office and website. The Mountain View Regional Film Office (MVRFO) is meant to attract even more film productions.

According to its website, the MVRFO will aim to connect people to career resources, technology opportunities, and other film industry professionals in pursuit of exceptional filmmaking.

"It just made sense to promote the further advancement of film, T.V., media and tech development in Mountain View and our surrounding region. As the demand grows for filming in our area, we will now have an opportunity to grow the workforce to meet the demands," said Didsbury Mayor Rhonda Hunter.

Then there's a spate of other films which have shooting locations yet to be announced. I.A.T.S.E confirmed that the second season of the series Billy the Kid is going to be filmed in Calgary and the surrounding areas come May. Though the details are not yet released on which surrounding areas that may encompass, all this mystery may very well mean we could see more film crews in the area.

The series, produced by MGM+ Studios follows the life of the infamous Billy the Kid, from his Irish upbringing to his days as one of the fastest gun-slingers in the wild, wild west. Tom Blyth (Robin Hood) stars in the leading role and the second season, he will be squaring off against another well-known name in the Western genre: American outlaw Jesse Evans.

The film The Order is set to begin filming in May in Calgary and the surrounding areas. The film, which will star Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) and Nicholas Hoult; and is based on the book, The Silent Brotherhood.

The film is set in the early 1980s, following a series of violent bank robberies across America's Pacific Northwest, which leave law enforcement struggling to pin down the suspects. An F.B.I agent (Law) who works out of the bucolic town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho begins to suspect that the bank heists are not for financial gain, but are carried out by a group of domestic terrorists, and are being inspired by a cult-like captivating leader (Hoult).

The very first season of Netflix's Western series, The Abandons, is set to start filming in June in the surrounding areas and will star the ever-talented Lena Headey, who needs no introduction really, as the Bermudian British actress is best known for her wicked talents as Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones. The series will be centred around a group of families in the 1850s as they pursue Manifest Destiny.

And while Game of Thrones fangirls and fanboys may have been hoping for a reunion between Headey and her co-star Peter Dinklage, who played Cersei's brother, Tyrion Lannister, unfortunately, The Thicket, yet another production to be filmed in the province, starring Dinklage; will not be filmed in the Airdrie area.

But perhaps the biggest thrill for Airdronians will be the possibility that the run-away hit series The Last of Us may very well be filmed in the area. I.A.T.S.E stated that it is very likely that Airdrie, Balzac, Crossfield, Irricana, Beiseker, Carstairs, Didsbury and/or Olds will be part of the 'surrounding areas' of the filming of the second season.
