Airdronian Wendy Contant was awarded the Platinum Jubilee Award recognizing her amazing volunteerism in her community.

Contant was contacted by Airdrie Banff MP Blake Richards for a meeting, little did she know that she was getting a very prestigious award.

“I am totally overwhelmed and I really don't know what to say.”

Contant, who has been volunteering in Airdrie for over 15 years was busy at the Tim Hortons just off of Veterans BVLD making smile cookies when the surprise happened.

“Wendy is such a deserving person for this award. In my mind, she's exactly what I think the Queen would have envisioned with this award. The Queen was all about service and Wendy is the embodiment of that.  I can rarely think of an event where I don't see Wendy helping out volunteering in some way,” stated Richards.

For Contant, the reason she loves volunteering is all about social interaction.

“I love being able to help people because a lot of these organizations need assistance for all the events that they're doing. And I get hugs from everybody, that’s the best part!”
