Sunday, June 4 was a special day for the Airdrie U17 Female Raiders as they got their first-ever win. The Raiders were able to knock off the Okotoks Eagles 34-31.

Dana Nay, the Head Coach of the Raiders explained what it was like on the field after the win.

"We have a few girls that played last year and we didn't win any game. When we won this past weekend, they were so excited. You'd have thought they'd won the championship, it was awesome."

The Raiders are now heading into the playoffs with a 1-2 regular season record, this Sunday they will try to start a winning streak as they take on the Calgary Wildcats in the first round.

"Our girls are pretty pumped up after the win. Their confidence is up, their excitement is up, so, we'll be looking good going into the next game."

Nay mentioned they started out the season a little slow as they had to teach some new players the fundamentals and then bring them up to game speed.

"They've come so far and worked so hard. It's so exciting to see them on the field and seeing it click and them being able to recognize what's going on in front of them."

According to Nay, this year's team is an amazing group of kids and she is having so much fun coaching them. She hopes to see even more girls come out to play next season.
