Airdrie RCMP is continuing to investigate a collision that occurred earlier this week on Tuesday afternoon which has left two individuals in critical condition.

Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 564 between Delacour and Delroy at 2:00 p.m.

"A semi-truck was travelling South on Highway 9 when an SUV crossed in front of it. The SUV was travelling Eastbound on Highway 564 when it crossed in front of the semi-truck," a police release stated. "The driver of the SUV had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency personnel. The driver was in critical condition and transported by STARS air ambulance to the hospital."

The lone passenger in the SUV was also in critical condition; they were transported by ground ambulance to the hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was not physically injured.

The SUV’s 29-year-old driver and 26-year-old passenger remain in critical condition. Police confirmed they are sisters and residents of France. 

Police believe that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision. The investigation is ongoing but no further updates are anticipated.
