Airdronian and Swift Current Broncos player Josh Davies now has another title to add to his repertoire. National Hockey League (NHL) prospect for the Florida Panthers.  

Davies was selected with the 186th overall pick in the 6th round in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers on July 7.  

Recently Davies attended the Florida Panthers Development camp along with 36 other NHL prospects. 

Davies says “it was pretty emotional it was a big moment for me and my family, it was a long day of anticipation. To this day it still hasn’t really sunk it. I am just happy to go to such a great organization.   

Davies hopes his trajectory will look 1-2 more years in Junior hockey with the WHL Swift Current Broncos and then by the time he is 20 to make the AHL on the Florida Panthers farm team, the Charlotte Checkers. Then to make his NHL by the time he is 21-22 years of age.  

But in the meantime, before his NHL debut, he still has his eyes set on the WHL Davies says.

“Every year the goal is to make playoffs right, I am looking forward to getting back to Swift Current and being able to share the experiences and memories with the other 6 guys that got drafted and 4 that went to camp. I’m just so happy for them and I am excited to get back to work there.” 

Last season with the Swift Current Broncos Davies, connected for 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 64 games while being assessed 119 minutes in penalties. 

The former member of the U15 Airdrie Xtreme and U18 CFR Bisons was named to Team Canada's U18 squad at the 2022 World Championships hosted by Germany.  Davies had one assist in three games during the championship. 

Davies was the 69th-ranked North American skater heading into the draft.
