The case of an Airdrie man, Michael Roebuck, was addressed before Criminal Appearance Court (CAC) on Friday at The Court of Queen's Bench in Calgary.

During the CAC appearance, new trial dates were set for October 11th till October 25th, 2022, with re-election for a judge-alone trial.

"We are also asking to confirm or secure April 14th for a full day bail hearing," said Krysia Przepiorka, defence counsel for the accused.

The Judge confirmed that a bail hearing would be heard for Roebuck, with judge's orders for Roebuck to appear in person.

Roebuck initially pled guilty to second-degree murder on November 1st, 2021 at the Court of Queen's Bench in Calgary, during the first day of his scheduled trial, but Roebuck refused to sign the agreed statement of facts then and asked for time to find a new legal counsel.

Roebuck was facing a first-degree murder charge, as well as a lesser charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Daniel MacDonald in September 2019.

On November 19th 2021, Michael Roebuck appeared in the Calgary Court of Queens Bench in Criminal Arraignment Court (CAC) on Thursday with a new lawyer.

Krysia Przepiorka, Roebuck's new defence counsel requested disclosure.

"I very recently been retained on this matter," Przepiorka said. "I've had a number of discussions with Mr. Mercier [prosecutor for the crown]. I'm suggesting this matter go over to December 17th to ensure that I have received disclosure and we are on track and that's agreeable with the crown."

On September 7th, 2019 at around 5:00 pm, police responded to the neighbourhood in response to shots fired.  MacDonald was pronounced dead at the scene. The two men were said to be neighbours who knew each other. MacDonald was 57 at the time of his death.
