A 41-year-old Airdrie man was arrested in Red Deer in the early morning hours on June 6. Christopher Hayward was found by Red Deer RCMP unresponsive in the driver's seat of a car that had been stalled at an intersection, despite there being a green light.

Red Deer RCMP, who were conducting patrols in the city’s downtown searched the licence plate and determined it did not match the vehicle, and officers approached. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed two firearms, one of which had been stolen from a local business in 2021, prohibited ammunition and illicit drugs.

Hayward has been charged with several offences including possession of a firearm obtained by an offence, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, two counts of possession of an unauthorized firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of careless use or storage of a firearm, tampering with a serial number, eight counts of possession contrary to order, as well as possession of a controlled substance

He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear on June 14, 2022, at Red Deer Provincial Court.
