It was an eventful past weekend for the A U11 Airdrie Lightning as they participated in Hayley Wickenheiser's Wickfest Tournament which included meeting Wickenheiser.

Cory Brow, the Head Coach of the U11 Airdrie Lightning talked a little bit about the tournament and the lead-up to meeting Wichenheiser.

"We were at the 2022 Wickfest in Calgary. It's Hayley Wickenheiser's tournament, they have it in a couple of locations across Canada. One of the parents spotted Hayley and invited her into our dressing room to give the girls some motivational words of advice before the game."

Brow said the whole experience of Wickfest was just something special and was about so much more than just Hockey.

When Wickenheiser walked into their dressing room, jaws dropped.

"There was screaming there was excitement. There was that awe factor of having arguably the best female hockey player of all time and Hockey Hall of Fame member coming to your dressing room, they were super excited and just memories those kids will cherish for life."

According to Brow, Wickenheiser talked to the girls about not being afraid to go out there and be themselves and show everybody how good they are at the sport. She also touched on being a great teammate, being a great leader, and staying focused.

"A goal from this is to make sure that we're continuing that path and that these girls meeting her and seeing what you can do, they realize that the sky's the limit."

The girls also got to meet broadcaster Cassie Campbell-Pascall who also gave the girls some words of wisdom.
