With the Christmas month just around the corner, this year's edition of the Airdrie Festival of Lights setup is starting this weekend.

Michelle Pirzek, Coordinator for the Airdrie Festival of Lights talks about what the event is all about and the organization.

"Airdrie Festival of Lights is Western Canada's largest free outdoor walkthrough Light Festival. We're an independent nonprofit organization that runs on volunteers. It's our 27th season. We're super excited as the last two years, of course, have been difficult for everyone. We did run, but we're looking forward to returning to our regular events and regular formalities."

The event's vision has always been to provide an affordable family-friendly Christmas Festival of Lights experience to the people of Airdrie and Southern Alberta that is suitable for all ages, while also providing a venue in which other nonprofit organizations can raise funds for their activities.

Starting this weekend, things will start rolling with setup.

"Internally we start moving into Nose Creek Park this weekend. All our trucks and trailers are going to be hauled in this weekend. Our official call for volunteers comes on November 19 and 20. "

The festival has plenty of different events that will be happening throughout the month including an old-fashioned skating party, their first ever, after-hours, 18+ Event and of course many more which can be seen HERE.

"We're incredibly proud that we're still relevant and appreciated by people. We noticed that we still had a number of guests that came and visited us during COVID and people are excited for the season, like the vibe everywhere this season has been incredible."

Let's Get Lit Airdrie will also be back in action for all those Airdroians that love Christmas decorations.

When the link is on their website on November 15, Pirzek is asking Airdronians to sign up to help create an interactive map for people to go around the city and check out the holiday spirit.
