Airdrie's U11 Angels Fastpitch Team won the 2023 Softball Alberta 'B' Provincials held in Calgary this past weekend. The girls went undefeated throughout the whole tournament, winning six games in three days.

Erin Muzechka, the Head Coach of the Angels said the girls were peaking at the right time, coming off a big tournament win the previous weekend.

"The girls were super excited to be playing ball even though that was going to be our last weekend. They just came out and did all the things we practiced and worked really hard at all year. Ultimately we went through the entire provincial weekend undefeated."

Along with their dominant performance at provincials, the girls also won the gold the weekend before in the Calgary Minor Softball League Championship while also winning the South Bow River Blue Tournament in Calgary earlier in the season.

"I can honestly say, each one [player] of them kicked in along the way and definitely played a big part in the run for gold."

For Muzechka, as a coach, she does not feel like she could have asked for anything more from her team as they were committed to each other and to getting better all throughout the year.

"For me, and my fellow coaches, I know it was just super exciting to see these girls not give up at all, rally around each other and play to their full potential."

In the provincial final, the girls played the Olds Pistols, although they won the game 14-4, they did face some adversity due to a weather delay with thunder and lightning. The reaction from the girls when they officially won was a little bit delayed, according to Muzechka.

"Because we were up on the other team by 10 runs at the end of that inning, that's when the game was called. The girls were excited and they just kept looking at me [wondering if it was actually over] and I ran out on the field and gave them all a hug."

Muzechka is very thankful for the parents of the girls and how they would help out if needed.

"If a girl needed to work on a skill at home over the weekend, they were right there. I know they were just as excited as I was when the girls won it all."
