At the most recent City Council Meeting, Airdrie Council was presented with the findings of the 2022 Citizen Satisfaction Survey, which was conducted between January 10 and 28. Two sets of data were collected, one being a random sample of 598 responses to make up the statistically valid and reliable sample and the other being 898 responses through the web survey open to anyone within Airdrie. 

Tracey With, Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Y Station Communications and Research, the company the city of Airdrie partnered with to collect and compile the survey results, presented to Council, stating 72 per cent of those who took the survey rated their quality-of-life in Airdrie as four or five out of five.  

“The pieces that continue to anchor the quality of life in the City of Airdrie are the parks and green spaces, walking trails,” says With, “The availability of services, facilities, and amenities at 18 per cent, shopping in stores at 13 per cent, the crime rate at 12 per cent, and then just the good and friendly people.” 

With highlighted, based on survey results, the quality of life declined from 93 per cent in 2021 at to 72 per cent in 2022. 

The most prominent issues facing the City of Airdrie, according to the 2022 Citizen Satisfaction Survey are as follows: 

  • Healthcare, not enough doctors, hospitals, and clinics at 29 per cent. It was at 8 per cent in 2021. 

  • Infrastructure, traffic, roads, train tracks, and construction at 29 per cent. It was 43 per cent in 2021. 

  • Recreation facilities, parks, bike paths, and dog parks at 10 per cent. It was 14 per cent in 2021. 

  • High taxes, mismanagement of money by the city, keeping costs down, and high costs for the city at 9 per cent for 2022. It was at 8 per cent in 2021. 

  • Rapid growth management, development, incomplete projects, and overdevelopment at 8 per cent. It was 8 per cent in 2021. 

  • COVID-19 pandemic related issues, impacts, restrictions at 8 per cent. It was at 13 per cent in 2021. 

Topping the list of priorities Airdonians wish for City Council to focus on was improve healthcare services and build a hospital facility at 23 per cent this year compared to 10 per cent last year.
