“The two most important days in your life: 1) the day you were born.... 2) the day you learn WHY you were born”
Last Thursday (August 23) we attended the 'Thumbs Up Foundation' banquet, and it was such a humbling experience. First off, I’m grateful for Kim and Kim for creating the Thumbs Up Foundation in honour of their Son, Braden- who lost his battle with Mental Illness.
The Thumbs Up Foundation is a locally owned non-profit with the purpose to improve access to mental health care to members of our community; They want to help improve the knowledge regarding Mental Health and help create awareness for the need of current access to care!
The guest speaker for Thursday night's banquet was former NHL player Clint Malarchuk (if you’re unsure of who this is, I encourage you to google his story!) Clint shared such a raw and real experience of his fight with mental illness and being a suicide survivor. I was blessed enough to sit and talk with him for an hour and a half in regards to my struggles with mental health too. He gave me so many guidelines to help me cope and steps to take.
It's so important to remember that we are not alone- and there are resources out there for us.
If you are feeling alone or as though you need someone to listen, I encourage you to reach out to Kim or Kim with the Thumbs Up Foundation.
