Hobbyist painter Carie Stock is this week's summer sizzling artist.
Stock paints for the love of art as opposed to feeling the pressure to create. You will find Stock fine-tuning her skills at Final Touch Art Studio in Cochrane where she has been painting for the past 8 years. Painting provides a good stress reliever for 31 year old Stock, who captures the beauty of every individual she paints.
Stock’s passion for life carries over into a charity that she founded in 2008. ‘Helping Families Handle Cancer’ is a foundation that helps pay for family necessities/bills if their child is diagnosed with cancer and struggling to stay a float.
Stock brings expertise to the charity through her own personal experience. In an interview with Stock, she tells us about her love of art, her passion for helping families through a difficult time, and her own personal experience.
Referred generally by social workers, Stock helps families all over Alberta. Over the past 6 years the foundation has given away more than half a million dollars to those in need. Although Stock visions chapters across Canada, she is protective of the foundation she created and will only expand under the right circumstances.
Part of the foundation’s fundraising is done through the sixth annual 'Helping Families Handle Cancer Art Exhibit' an annual art sale held at the Marda Loop Community Centre, on Oct. 2. One hundred local artists collectively come together to showcase their talents from photography, to painting, to sculpture in a variety of mediums. It provides art enthusiasts a chance to pick up a one of a kind piece while 100% of the proceeds go directly back to the foundation. Tickets for the evening out are now on sale; where you will be wined and dined but also hear from families the foundation has helped over time.
If you have questions for Stock either about the foundation or would like to purchase a ticket for the upcoming sale you can contact her here.
