Baby it's cold outside is banned, my daughter sang Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to me the other day, I cringed as she is too young to understand the uproar right now, about how it encourages racism, bullying and a few other things.
I think Christmas is officially ruined for me this year. I can't hear any of the songs now without thinking about peoples current interpretations. Then I had a conversation with some folks who couldn't understand that a news article is informative and a blog is more an opinion piece and may pose questions... I feel like we have to dumb things down for everyone these days: BLOG (do the capital letters help?)
Then I went on to read this from PETA:
Words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it. Here’s how to remove speciesism from your daily conversations.
"Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start ‘bringing home the bagels’ instead of the bacon."
"Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is urging people to stop using “anti-animal language,” comparing phrases like “bring home the bacon” to homophobia and racism."
Hey, I'm all about people's feelings not getting hurt and being kind to others, including animals! But I feel like people are taking the Christmas spirit this year and twisting people's generous nature at this time, to push forward odd agenda's.
Am I crazy? Or are you down with the Anti Animal Language Movement?
