The Alberta Beef Producers are back with their annual Young Guns contest.

Communications Manager, Katelyn Laverdure says the topic of this year's contest is rather timely.

"We're looking for entries this year to tell us what they think is the biggest myth is about beef production and what the truth is behind it," she says. "I think it's pretty timely, we're putting out new 'Worried About' brochures on the consumer section of our website and the two that we've put out so far have focused on hormones in cattle and trying to dispel some of the myths around them and antibiotic use and resistance."

Laverdure says young people who have a background in raising beef should have a good idea of what's going on in the industry...

The contest is open to anyone between the ages of eight and 21, and are involved in Beef 4-H, junior cattle shows or beef production.

Entries may be submitted as an essay, video, audio segment, social media campaign, press release or any other form of communication tool.

Laverdure says the key is, "be creative."

First place is worth $1,000 while the second place winner gets $500 and the third place entrant receives $250.
