Open Farm Days is coming up again this weekend.

It's a chance for Albertans to get out and see how and where their food actually comes from.

Rachel Herbert of Trails End Beef near Nanton says there's plenty for people to do when they visit.

"This our tenth year of direct marketing and we've had an open ranch policy the whole time," she says. "We want things to be really transparent, we want our customers to feel a connection to the ranch so we have people down almost weekly."

"It's our home as well as our ranch and our business so what they get to see is our home and the farm yard, they can pet the cats, everyone wants to play catch with the border collie, that's usually the highlight for most kids, our kids act as hosts and tour guides and they take people around the yard and they can pet horses and this year, probably the attraction will be our new barn that we built," Herbert says .

They'll set up a farm gate market in the barn with other local producers who are bringing pasture raised chicken and honey and vegetables.

Culinary events are being held around the province Saturday and farms are open Sunday from 10 - 4.

She says they'll have beef cooking on the bar-b-que and over the campfire for tastings and her children will have a lemonade stand to raise money for the Nanton Animal Protection Society.
