About a week after announcing they were giving up on Canadian Beef, Earl's Restaurants has had a change of heart.

Alberta Beef Producers President Rich Smith says that was music to his ears.

"We were certainly were pleased to see the announcement of Earl's saying they've listened to Albertans and are going to bring Canadian beef back to their restaurants. It's a positive message to producers here and a good first step towards putting Canadian and Alberta beef back on their menu's."

Smith says a fast and very negative social media backlash played it's role in the company's decision.

"I think that had a huge impact on it. And we certainly appreciate the support of Albertans. I know the people of Alberta rose up quite strongly, in support of the industry here and we certainly thank them for that."

Smith says the Beef Producers, Earl's and the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef will work together to come up with a sustainable beef sourcing framework which will satisfy and benefit the restaurant, consumers and producers.
