The Alberta Wheat Commission says it's disappointed with the lack of specifics that would improve railway accountability.

The commission was reacting after the release of the Canadian Transportation Act Review.

Alberta Wheat Commission Chairman Kevin Auch says the report is short on specific recommendations on addressing the imbalance in railway power.

He says some of the suggestions may now provide solutions to the lack of competition and accountability when it comes to grain transportation.

The review was undertaken to look at ways of improving services after the 2013 grain transportation crisis that backlogged grain and cost farmers billions of dollars in losses.

The AWC's submission to the review called for the development of standardized reciprocal penalties and measures to increase inter-switching efficiencies between rail lines.

The Report also recommends eliminating the Maximum Revenue Entitlement which limits the amount of revenue Canadian National and Canadian Pacific can earn shipping regulated prairie grain.

Auch believes the elimination of the entitlement will mean higher prices for farmers with no guarantee of better services.

Auch says the commission will continue to lobby the new federal government for changes.
