A coalition of about 30 agriculture groups in Alberta has come up with plans for future consultations with the NDP Government of the farm workers protection act or Bill 6.

The AgCoalition's executive will be meeting with government officials Wed, Feb 24, 2016.

Co-chair of the coalition Kent Erickson says when they met in January they tried to do a mock exercise to see how the government's approach may work considering there's three major areas with Workers Compensation, occupational Health and safety and Labour Standards.

But they felt the process was too fragmented to come up with a single vision.

"We'd like to see the ability to form an all encompassing technical group with strong support from this industry advisory forum of producers to offer feedback so that we can go through them piece by piece, but ultimately the same group and the same environment so we understand how each of the recommendations and components look with respect to the other part of the bill," he says.

Erickson says they're confident with the group they've built and while they respect the Government's own processes, they want to make it known they want to be more involved and have more say in how the legislation's developed.

He says they've re-established a survey which will remain open until the end of the week to gather farmer's and rancher's feedback and opinions.

They've also set up an e-mail address for feedback and questions from producers.
