The Airdrie Fire Department were called to a report of a vehicle fire on an exterior parking pad at a multi-family, multi-story townhouse complex located in the 700 block of Willowbrook Road NW yesterday (December 27).

Firefighters responded at 2:46 pm.   Prior to their arrival, an area resident had witnessed the fire, called 911, then attempted to extinguish the blaze using portable fire extinguishers and buckets of water.

Fire crews removed the vehicle's hood to directly attack the fire and ensure that it was fully extinguished.

The garage door was then opened and a Thermal Imaging Camera used to check for remaining hot spots and any possible extension of the fire.  Some light smoke in the garage's interior was ventilated.  Firefighters also completed air quality testing on the interior of the home.

The Fire Prevention Bureau continues their investigation into the cause of the fire and damage estimates.

There were no injuries to report.  14 firefighters used five pieces of apparatus at the scene.
