A local Lacrosse program is finally ready to get back on the field.

The Jesters Lacrosse Club, a Field Lacrosse program servicing Airdrie, Cochrane and Rocky View, is preparing to start its summer season with hopes of playing games in just a number of weeks.

Co-founder of the club, Gareth Barley said many players and coaches are itching to get back out there.

"With restrictions lifting, we're hoping that we'll be able to get some exhibition games at least, even a couple field or scrimmage days in within our own program."

Barley has been playing and coaching Box Lacrosse in the area for years as part of the Rocky View Knights and the Airdrie Mohawks.

He recognizes the Rocky View Lacrosse Association for its hard work in developing players for the indoor game but said many are looking for the outdoor experience.

"There's a couple of programs in Calgary but families have to travel into Calgary to play. Starting Jesters out in Airdrie allows us to grow the game, develop the game at the field level."

Registration is still going on for teams ranging from U6 to U19.

Many local players have taken their skills south of the border to play collegiate Lacrosse. Most recently, Myles Moffat, who plays for Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.
