Several earlier collisions involving multiple cars both in Airdrie and north of the city have been cleared. However, police have warned motorists of deteriorating road conditions both in Airdrie and on the QEII.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Airdrie RCMP reported that both fire crews and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were attending to multiple collisions. Previously, a collision near the 40th Avenue Overpass reduced traffic to one lane, while Highway 2 north of Airdrie was also gridlocked due to an earlier collision.
Innisfail RCMP had also warned of poor road conditions in northern Alberta. It was reported that starting north of Innisfail and spreading to the South of Bowden, roads are covered in ice and snow, resulting in multiple collisions and vehicles driving off the road. However, police stated that no injuries have been reported so far.
"Alberta RCMP reminds the public to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road and advise that there will be delays on Highway 2 northbound and southbound in the area and any other area affected by this weather and these conditions. If possible, avoid travel in the area or seek alternate routes," Innisfail Mounties said.
Forecasts are predicting that the gusting winds will continue until the afternoon in Airdrie and the surrounding areas. While the wind is set to diminish later on today, it will persist through much of the evening and into Thursday.
