A boil water advisory has been issued by Alberta Health Services (AHS) for residences supplied by Salt Box Coulee Waterworks System in Rocky View County. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

According to AHS, due to an issue with the Salt Box Coulee Waterworks System and several Rocky View County water systems which draw water from it, a boil water advisory is in place for residences supplied by these water systems. These water systems include:

  • Salt Box Coulee Waterworks System
  • Calling Horse Estates Waterworks System
  • Windmill Water Coop Waterworks
  • Deer Springs

All residents and businesses supplied by these systems are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to any consumption, including:

  • drinking
  • brushing teeth
  • cleaning raw foods
  • preparing infant formula or juices
  • making ice, etc.

Water used for bathing or washing clothes does not need to be boiled. For hand-washing, wash with soap and water and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing more than 60 per cent alcohol after drying your hands.

Residents may instead choose to purchase bottled water for consumption, for the duration of this advisory. AHS added that corrective action is taking place to address this matter and restore appropriate water supply.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the situation, including sampling and testing of the drinking water to ensure it is safe for consumption.
